This beautiful tree is well-known for its different uses mainly as a spice.
- However it also has healing properties not so well-known.
- The seeds and leaves
are being used. It is a tonic and relieves indigestion.
- The seeds together
with other herbs is used for rheumatism.
- The leaves in a powder form taken
up the nose stops a nose-bleed.
DELICIOUS IN SOUPS & STEWS.
Dried bay leaves have a pungent, warm aroma, and a less bitter note than fresh.
Use 2-3 bay leaves for 4 servings.
WHY NOT TRY...
- Crushing into marinades for grilled or barbecued meat and poultry.
- Stirring into Bolognese sauce during cooking.
- Cooking rice and other milk puddings with a Bay Leaf for added flavour.
- Adding whole to soups, stews, casseroles, stock and gravy whilst simmering,
for extra flavour.
